At VBA we recognize that being on the spectrum doesn’t need to define your life or your talent. We believe that every person has their own unique voice and brings value to the world around them.
Susan Boyle’s talent was first discovered on the television show Britain’s Got Talent. Shortly afterwards, she released the UK’s best-selling debut album of all time, topping the Billboard 200 for six weeks. Susan’s success was continued with her second album, and she’s only the third act ever to top both the UK and US album charts twice in the same year.
And in 2012 – the year she turned 51 AND released her fourth album – Susan was formally diagnosed with Asperger Syndrome. She made this news public the following year and, finally comfortable with who she was, began dating for the first time.
With six albums to her credit, Susan has performed at Windsor Castle for Queen Elizabeth II and at a Papal Mass for Pope Benedict XVI. She has sold over 19 million albums worldwide, and has received two Grammy Award nominations.
Susan sees her Asperger’s diagnosis as something she has to live with, but refuses to let it define her. She travels extensively and is active in supporting charities that help children around the world.
And, by following the music in her mind and in her heart, Susan has built a career and a life that many would envy.
