Our ABA Therapy Services
ABA therapy (Applied Behavior Analysis therapy) is appropriate for a variety of behavioral issues, ages, and needs. At VBA, we use advanced ABA therapy techniques based on the Verbal Development Theory (VBDT) created by Dr. R. Douglas Greer and his colleagues at Columbia University. ABA therapy is a student-led practice; it focuses on how children and individuals learn best. At VBA, we craft an individualized therapy intervention for each client. The plan is designed to support the client’s behavior cusp and help them move to the next phase through instructional programs and exercises. ABA therapy is designed to find the best motivational conditions to spur behavioral advances.
During the time with our Interventionists, clients will work on a variety of goals and skills including:
- Improving functional communication
- Expanding listening and speaking skills
- Changing maladaptive behavior patterns
- Building Social Skills
- Self-Management/Adaptive skills
- Gross and Fine motor skills related to academic readiness
- Learning Capabilities including Generalized Imitation, Incidental Language Learning, or Observational Learning
The ABA Therapy Process
The first step in the methodology is to conduct a detailed analysis of each client. Together, our team of PhDs, BCBAs, RBTs, and Interventionists will then craft instructional plans to support the client’s needs. Whether the focus is on building verbal communication skills or changing behavior patterns, a committed Interventionist near you will be assigned to work directly with the client to support those goals. Over time, the ABA therapy plan can be modified to reflect the client’s current needs and recent successes.
ABA Therapy Outcomes
ABA therapy outcomes look different for each client. One goal may be learning how to ask “why” or asking a parent or teacher to “tell me more.” For some clients, success is learning how to sit through an entire movie or increased participation in a classroom environment. Other clients have built their verbal communication skills, saying, “Mom” for the first time. Our goal is to identify and teach the necessary language and communication that allows children to succeed in social environments, whatever that might be for them.
Why Choose ABA Therapy?
ABA therapy was created by therapists and doctors looking to establish effective techniques to help clients dealing with autism, developmental delays, communication problems, behavioral issues, and trouble with listening or verbal communication. The client-led approach of ABA therapy has made it useful for a wide range of client goals and abilities. In addition, we offer parent and caregiver training to help ensure that the client experiences a consistent approach to their goals; the holistic character of ABA therapy means that families can provide long term support, even without the Interventionist present.
