MEET THE VBA TEAM – Kyle Motherspaw, Clinical Manager and Scheduling Manager

During his time volunteering at a summer camp he was on a Canadian TV show! He admits that the “clip was maybe 20 seconds long and wasn’t my best angle. I think this is the reason my modeling career didn’t take off.”

Even though that didn’t work out for him, his passion for ABA has made him a star at VBA!

Having two family members on the spectrum and working in group homes have given Kyle a passion for helping people. When he isn’t working he enjoys hanging out with his wife and son or out golfing. Not in that particular order per se.

1. How long have you been at VBA and what is your position? 3.5 yrs. Clinical manger I/scheduling manager.
2. What inspired you to pursue a career in this field? Having two family members on the spectrum, working in a group home in college, and working for a summer camp for individuals with special needs.  
3.  What do you like the most about your position and the least?  Most – being able to help solve problems, both on the operations and clinical side. Least – Emails
4. If you weren’t at the office, what would you be doing instead? Hanging out with my son/wife and/or golfing. I am not able to rank these for obvious reasons.
5. How do you define success? Success will always be individualized. For me success is setting a goal, making a plan to achieve the goal, and then reaching the goal. These goals can be big or small and can pertain to anything.  
6. What three books would we find on your bookshelf at home?  Applied Behavior Analysis (3rd Edition), The Big Miss (My Years Coaching Tiger Woods), Ben Hogan’s Five Lessons: The modern Fundamentals of Golf
7. How has outside knowledge or experiences prepared you for this role?  Growing up in Big Bear I worked at a ski and snowboard shop, I eventually became a manager. This experience helped me with scheduling, managing staff, and customer service.
8. What’s the most interesting place you’ve travelled to? I don’t travel a lot, but I went to Cancun last year for my best friend’s wedding…which was pretty amazing!
9. Who is your personal hero and why? My Mom because she always focuses on the positive of every situation.

I think this is the reason my modeling career didn’t take off. I also once played Horse with Ted Danson at a park when I was seven.
