Have you met Samantha Medlam? Known to her friends as Sam, she’s been interning in the Marketing Department since mid-winter. That makes Sam an integral part of VBA’s communications efforts, and the person you should talk to about getting your profile put up here for next month’s issue of this newsletter. Take a minute to learn about her background, and be sure to connect with her one-on-one. She’s AWESOME!
- How long have you been at VBA? I have been at VBA for 5 months
- What about VBA inspires you? VBA inspires me because we are working with children that need help with school work, social cues, and activities. All these things I think are so important to a growing kid. I admire the work we do to help these children that cant help themselves.
- What in your personal life inspires you? My dad inspires me the most in my personal life because I know he always wants the best for me and I always want to make him proud. He brought my sisters and I up to know that working hard is going to get you somewhere. So having him always motivates and makes me want to be a better person.
- What is the most challenging aspect about your role? The most challenging thing about my role is listening to what everyone wants and trying to put it into the most perfect combination for everyone. Since I am just an intern right now I have a variety of different things I have to do, so my days can be totally different everyday. It is good to learn different things and be ready for anything on the other hand.
- What do you like the most about your position and the least? What I like the most about my position is all the things I am learning everyday. Since I am new here I am learning so many news things and Knowledge is power.. What I like least about my job is sitting at the desk all day. There are some days I get out of the office and those really make up for the desk the other days.
- If you weren’t at the office, what would you be doing instead?– If I wasn’t in the office I would be at the gym, beach or roller skating either by myself, family, friends, or my boyfriend.
- How do you define success? – I define success by improvement. If I am improving then I am succeeding in life. It is important to set goals for yourself and achieve them.
- What three books would we find on your bookshelf at home? Rise and Grind by Daymond John, The Hunger Games Trilogy by Suzanne Collins, Before I Fall by Lauren Oliver.
- How has outside knowledge or experiences prepared you for this role? My classes at Point Loma Nazarene University definitely prepared me for this, but overall I’ve been having to just go with the flow. One of my professors got me an interview here, so I definitely have him to thank for this opportunity. Which I think most things are like that anyways.
- If you could pick one person to travel the world with, who would it be and why? My boyfriend Rob, because we have so much fun together and can make bad situations good. He is definitely my best friend and we are always up for a new adventure.
- Who is your personal hero and why? My personal hero is my dad because he has done so much for me and I can’t ever thank him enough. He has given me everything to get to where I am and for me a hero is someone that is always looking out for you.
