What is Applied Behavior Analysis?
Applied behavior analysis programs (ABA programs) are designed specifically for those affected by autism and other developmental delays. Applied behavior analysis features a behavioral-based account of development. The analysis outlines the behavioral cusps necessary for initial language acquisition and subsequent development of more complex social repertoires. This approach was conceptualized by Dr. R. Douglas Greer and colleagues at Columbia University.
Our Process
ABA programs are client-led. As a result, interventions and outcomes vary greatly by client. During an ABA Analysis Program, one of our Ph.D. team members will review the client’s case in detail. They will assess the client’s needs based on the use and acquisition of language and other social skills. From there, they will work with our holistic team (BCBA’s, RBT’s, Interventionists, and the client’s family) to create a plan. Since consistency is central to each client’s success, we involve all caregivers in the process through our parent trainings and interventions.
How Applied Behavior Analysis Can Help
Since ABA programs are customized to each participant, there is no one standard outcome. For some clients, developing verbal and listening abilities is the primary goal. For others, increasing fine and gross motor skills is an important endeavor. Being able to sit through a movie, ask questions, or improving the ability to adapt to social situations are other goals that our clients have achieved. Learn more about the outcomes in published research.
Funding and Resources
We work in partnership with several school districts around Southern California to provide services to a wide range of families. Many of our clients access our applied behavior analysis program through publicly-funded initiatives. Some of our clients also utilize private resources to cover the cost of an ABA program.
